I accumulated 9 years no claim bonus before a change in job meant that I traveled abroad so much, that it no longer made sense to have a car. I have remained a named driver on my parent's car insurance in the meantime, and borrowed their car from time to time.

I'm now back in the UK, and haven't had a policy for 34 months. I understand most insurance companies will no longer recognise my NCD after 24 months, but some do up to 36 months, but I can't find out who does, other than COOP.

Any further advice / help?

Many thanks :)

I would run a quote through with no NCD and see what figures come out.

The odd couple of companies that allow 3 NCD that is 3 years old may be dearer anyway.

I spoke with COOP on the phone and got some reasonable prices. Probably not the cheapest, but not bad either.
Also spoke with Tesco Bank (my last insurer) as they also cover up to a 3 year break if you were previously with them. I basically got a crazy quote because I didn't know the reg of the car I'm looking to buy.

Any other suggestions? The NCD is really important because we're looking to buy a fairly powerful new car.
