I might be wrong because the retailer is being quite cut and dry with my options so I thought I'd come here to ask because I had that whole 'blind rage' thing when they told me the options I had.
So,
I purchased an "oak" dining room table on a credit card for £279.99 from a well know online retailed in December last year. A couple weeks ago I noticed a small section of the laminate on top lifting slightly so I contacted them. They sent out a impartial expert from homeserve furniture (I thought they were the boiler people...who knew!) he looked at the table all over, looked at light sources ect and said to me (and them directly) that it is a manufacturing fault that will only get worse.
It took the retailer ages to get back to me, they eventually did saying I had two options as they no longer stock this table -
1. A £50 rebate and keep the deteriorating table.
or
2. Send it back and get a refund, minus an amount for the amount of time I have had it. Taking the refund down to £269.
I know £10 isn't a lot but the fact that their guy they insisted be sent out said it's a manufacturing fault and not my fault at all makes it feel like they're taking the p**s.
Basically, if it's proven to be a manufacturing fault and only 7 months old can they do this?
I'm telling them the only way I'd be happy (seeing as they can't replace it) is if they refunded the whole amount I paid. Am I right to think that is only fair?

They're right. After 6 months they are allowed to reduce any refund to take account of the use you have had since purchase. A £10 reduction is actually a very good offer.0

So I'm wrong then? I was saying I'd at least expect them to refund the full amount as the return is being forced upon me as the damage to the table will only get worse so keep it makes no sense.
I told them of the fault on the 17th of July, which is 6 months and 28 days after I got it. So for those 28 days they can reduce the refund?0 -

It's not nonsense. It's pointing out that you have had use of the table for 7 months. If they refunded 100% of what you paid, then in effect you have hired a table for 7 months for free.Wow that's a crap law, especially as it's a fault I had no hand in
Genuinely interested in how would you make the law better in your eyes then? How long should people be entitled to a 100% refund for?0 -

Well you best take the refund, it's repairable but as you can't do it, it'll cost you more than £10.0
