    ...and your husband kept signing up to these remortgages? This isn't making much sense.

    A re-mortgage is even less likely to be in negative equity, no bank would actually go for it. Were there loans too - if so they could not be secured loans as no room on the equity. Are you sure that none of the borrowing (not mortgages) was done with him as guarantor.
