PIP renewal assessment

Options
Hi,

i am my sons appointee, he has mental health conditions.

2 years ago when he transferred from DLA to PIP and we had to attend a tribunal the judge said p needed to be his appointee, he had flipped out at first tribunal appointment as it was cancelled due to overbooking and the admin and security staff both briefed judge on how distressed he had become.

Anyway since then his mental health has deteriorated. In fact in last twelve months he has had over a dozen serious attempts at suicide, only surviving because either I or police have found him and got him to hospital , where police have sectioned him so he could be treated.

anyway, a couple of months ago renewal came through for PIP, i filled in form, attached new medical reports including all suicide admission paperwork, and requested a paper assessment as i am sure by end of this week i will be back sitting by his hospital bedside if he has to even consider going to an assessment.

so today, letter arrives, he has to go to his assessment on Thursday , this coming week, and , in block capitals, I must attend with him otherwise assessment won't go ahead!

they don't seem to have contacted his recovery team, psychologist or GP who all agree an assessment is worst thing that could happen whilst he is so unstable.

so my questions are,

Should i contact his GP Monday morning and ask them to request a paper assessment and explain why, or his MH team, although his physiologist is off until September?

Is it worth also contacting MP?

Shall i ask them to rearrange the appointment?

I should point out going through this for the past 12 months has lead me to a breakdown, and i really can't imagine how he is going to react and how i am going to cope, but there is no one else to support him.

I am sure i have other questions, just getting stressed about having to deal with this again

Grace

Most people have assessments even for a review, it's rare to have paper assessments. In your son's case however, yes i would contact his GP and MH team and tell them he's been asked to attend this assessment. I'm not sure what his local MP can do here.

The assessment providers very rarely contact anyone for evidence, which is why they probably haven't contacted anyone.

I would leave contacting the assessment providers and canceling the assessment until after you've spoken to his GP etc. Remember that you can only cancel an appointment once. Good luck.

I would also suggest contacting the MP as you say.
    They can be most helpful.

Apologies, I realise the appointment date is now past.
I hope that you got a resolution.
