Multiple magistrate court fines

Hi - can anyone help. I recently forgot to tax my car, and it was taken by the council and crushed or sold on - I hadn't used it for months and it was parked in a side road - I simply had forgotten that I need to renew the tax. I decided to just chalk it up to experience and try and be more organised. Last month I received a magistrates court fine from Avon and Somerset (I live in London). I called them - discovered it was a fine for none payment of tax, which I obviously owed so paid, although I thought it strange that it was being dealt with by a court somewhere I hadn't been. Then this morning another magistrates court fine dropped through the letter box - this time from Brighton magistrates court. I am really confused how I can be fined twice for the same offence by two different courts which are both situated in other parts of the country. Can anyone shed any light - I'm quite worried and all the numbers on the form are for offices that are closed because it is Saturday afternoon. Thanks.

You say it may have been sold on. Could someone be driving around in it leaving you to pick up the mess?

I would contact the police asap. You could be in for a whole world of pain if it gets used for something serious like carrying drugs. Not to mention the speeding tickets and parking fines that will land on your door.

I suspect the police won't do much but it's best to start getting records going if bad stuff does happen.

I'm being lead to believe that if you are an ambulance driver you can be exempt from everything .Perhaps the vehicle has been sold on and the new owner has not registered the vehicle and you are receiving the penalty notices beings as you are the last registered keeper.
What does it show when you plug the vehicle registration into a vehicle check site like the dvla?

It shows as untaxed. It was taken to the car pound with all the paperwork inside so I couldn't complete the vehicle transfer paperwork - do you know if this means I'm liable now for any fines that the car incurs?

Whilst you are the registered keeper, then quite possibly, leaving that sort of paperwork in a vehicle is not the better choice.
Remember rules and laws are based on logic not emotion.
Having a nonchalant attitude to certain responsibilities may well come back to bite you in your pocket for starters.
