Does Windows Backup on Windows 7 work ok ?
I setup scheduled backup.
I chose to backup User Libraries & User account folders.
(Files in libraries and personal folders for all users and selected folders)
I checked 1st backup 4 weeks ago after it ran, did test restore of couple of document foldere, it seemed to have backed up folders ok.
I checked backup today, did test restore of same folders, it has not restored files changed yesterday.
Not sure it is working ok.

It will only back up depending on the schedule you set. If you want something that monitors for changes and backs up when those changes occur then you're looking at third party software. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It ran backup on schedule today, so assume it will backup any changed files in directories selected for backup.0 -
Does anyone know how Windows Backup works from one backup to next ?
Surely Windows Backup should backup any changed files since last backup ?0 -

Depends if you set it up correctly. There are IIRC three ways to do it, one is a full backup of anything, everything and then some more, second is the "select a bunch of folders and back up what's in them only and to hell with everything else" and third is the system image backup which, in theory, is designed to restore the entire configuration to how it was at the state of that backup.
In my experience the system image backup restoration rarely worked outside of Windows which sort of defeated the whole point.
Versions of Backup for older versions of Windows used to do full and incremental backups which was dropped at around Vista time in favour of what we have now.0 -
Download and use Macrium Reflect Free:
https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Take time to read how to use it. I trust that you are backing up to a source outside your PC, such as an external hard drive, or a NAS?
Macrium Reflect allows you to back up the whole of your system as an image, or as any/all of data, photos, music, documents etc. You can also set it to do incremental backups and set the number of backups to save. I have used it for many years and I back up regularly, it has saved my system 3 times over the years. It updates regularly.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
