People pay £1 a litre, the goverment reduces the tax by 20p, bring the cost down to 80p. The petrol companies increase it to £1 again and the government finds another way of getting all those 20p per litre back from us again. Maybe stick it on alcohol or increase VAT a little.
Oh dear...
The Government will NEVER reduce fuel tax by 20p....next airy fairy scenario!0 -
Am I right in believing that UK charge more for fuel than any other country in the world. It is irrelevant of how much the price of crude oil has risen, why can't we be charged on par with the rest of western europe. It did make a difference when we made a stand last year and it could make a difference if we made a stand again. I'm sure the goverment charge something stupid like 80% tax on fuel, surely this tax could be generated from other area's, or if I stand on my soap box, perhaps the goverment should stop handing money out to single moms who are work dodgers and spongers and can't keep their legs closed, but thats a different topic completely. If they stopped handing out so many benefits hard working folks like myself wouldn't be contantly penalised by paying ridiculus amounts of tax. I still think society do have the power to make a stand despite what previous guests have said. It has been done before and it can be done again.0

Rather than choosing a day not to buy fuel which has very little impact anyway, choose a petrol supplier giant of whom to boycot.
It is already going around 'my space' that we should all boycot 'Esso' and 'BP'
With BP/Esso losing profits they will be forced to lower their fuel prices and will empahasise the fact that consumers are not happy with having to pay the highest price for fuel in the whole of the world.
People really do have the power and we should use it. If we all pass this theory on to our friends and succesfully convince them to go ahead with the boycot we will quickly make a huge impact, and BP/Esso bosses will be forced to appeal to the goverment to lower the fuel tax.
I as one will go ahead with the boycot to see if it makes a difference, it's worth a try but we need to convince our friends.
Give up my V power .......erm NO
Next suggestion
As for govts lowering taxes :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I was hoping Myspace had a purpose.Destination_Anywhere wrote: »I recieved a bulletin on 'my space' with this strong idea of how to cut petrol prices.

I now see it is to receive all the garbage chain emails I have been receiving over the last ten years (that particular one has been going since at least 2000, probably earlier in the US, where it came from). You know, the ones headed, "Important, forward to everyone you know!!!!" (or was it six exclamation marks, I can't remember?).
More power to Myspace if it means I won't have to read that junk any more (unless someone gullible copies it onto MSE, of course....)0 -

The post was a response to thisA vast majority of the cost is tax. If you want the price reduced, the tax setters need to be your target.
in post #8 and one of your where you say taxation is the problem.
The actual amount doesn't matter, nor does that fact that the government won't reduce the fuel tax. The point was that if they did reduce it the petrol companies would increase the price by an equal amount.
We get charged more for many things, such as CD's and DVD's simply because we are willing to pay more. We may moan about it, but we still pay it.
If we pay £1 per litre today, and tomorrow the government reduces the tax by any amount the petrol companies will soon increase the cost back up to £1 again. Because they know we will pay it, and they can defend the increase by saying the actual cost hasn't gone up at all. All that has changed is the percentage each party gets.0 -
So i take it nobody is boycotting BP/Esso then, hehe. Looks like I can continue to collect my nectar points after all :j0
