    Feeling as strongly as you do, and besides pointing fingers and blaming others, how are you going to tackle this issue, because the message you are giving could be of value to some, but it has been conveyed so many times and in various forms, is now old, stale and ineffective - just noise.

    You need a better plan!

    Try Malwarebytes
    Yep, like you, I thought Malwarebytes surely would find it. But nope, the freeware version at least reported a computer containing all the above titled softwares as clean as a whistle :eek:

    That is even with the Microsoft Registration folder sat on the desktop containing two horrible little javascripts:mad:

    It may be old and stale to you, that, but it'll be brand new to those who inadvertently stumbled upon it today and in the future or go Googling for keywords in the title of this thread.

    Apart from that, how many MSE'ers login (or don't even login, just read) each day or weekend, or month, and head for the same forum each time? Only regular posters have that tendency, and clearly the message ain't primarily for them!

    Well you are entitled to an opinion, but all the time this thread is the top hit on Google for any search for "Microsoft Registartion", I will beg to differ :rotfl:

    Because on a cascading basis and not in the order I gave them, they are the preferred tools of trade of confidence tricksters and they can all be downloaded in the background and the strongest versions purchased using fraudulently set up online registrations from anonymous new email accounts, ALL WHILST THE VICTIM IS DISTRACTED. The victim may have only been persuaded to click on one or two innocuous or helpful-looking links (remember they believe they being are telephone assisted by Microsoft or similar into stopping a hack in progress). The worst of the downloads and the worst of the fraud then occurs behind the screens that are being discussed with the victim if the victim can be kept on the line long enough.

    And how can that be? Well such software will only end up live on your machine by fraudsters who have far too easy non-verified access to such dangerous software and the comparison with Microsoft Word is if you forgive me, a rather naive one.

    I think a better comparison might be to suggest that these softwares in the wrong hands are a bit like a crowbar in the wrong hands. If you see someone other than a craftsman in the street with a crowbar, you report it right?

    If you see a normal non-corporate antivirus customer with these Tech Support Desk type softwares on their machine, you are saying they should not be reported by the antivirus software? Why not? Even simple adware is reported routinely!
    Don't be fooled into thinking that people can magically tell you have problems with your computer, they can't. Don't be fooled by emails stating your password your , your browsing habits, your internet connection is being stopped etc.

    Once you click on a link that may involve these programs your antivirus program etc think hey this guy wants to run this , and the operating system also thinks so then how can we suggest this man is an idiot and he has no control over his clicky finger.

    The reason malware scanners don't highlight these apps is simple: they're not malware.

    Well the man may by then not be sat at the victim's computer but has a clicky finger on the other side of the world perhaps. A simple warning popup would suffice e.g. how about one like:

    WARNING: Malwarebytes as denied access to the following named program or file as it can be used to view or take over your computer remotely including to operate your computer in windows hidden from your view ....

    {e.g. Screenconnect, Connectwise, Logmein Rescue, Teamviewer11, ShowMyPC, Microsoft Registartion Files etc.}

    ... If you are sure the program is being used for a legitimate purpose then be aware that if you click Agree to continue, you are giving access to your computer to a remote user whom you may not have been able to verify properly. Otherwise we recommend you click on Quarantine Threat and Scan and cease communicating with whomever caused you to install the software at this time.
