Paying off a rogue trader

Options
I had a contractor do a few jobs in the house and one of the jobs was so bad that even he said he souldn’t Be happy with it in his own house. So he asked me to get a quote and take it off his bill. How do I cover myself so that he doesn’t sue me for the rest once it’s put right by another trader?

I think 'poor' rather than 'rogue' would be more suitable in this situation.

Hardly a rogue when he's offered to cover the cost of putting the job right.

Believe me he’s a rogue. Why take on a job you’ve no idea how to do and give the impression you’ve done it a million times before? He has ruined and devalued our house... used the cheapest possible materials and couldn’t even hack painting a wall! I could have done without all this hassle and the damage he caused to every room he worked in!

How did you come to choose him?

You said you got him to do a few jobs and one of them was bad. You didn't say the others were bad also.

Perhaps we should start again. What did you ask him to do and what was wrong with the end result?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
