Car insurance renewal

Hi all, just wondering if you can help.

My son has had a 3 day notice that his car insurance is due for renewal and then the insurance company have automatically taken payment from his account even though it's not actually up for another week, my son works away and got back today, now aside from the fact he should have been more on the ball, is there a legal requirement relating to how long an insurance company must contact you with regards to an insurance renewal as i was under the impression it was a month before it was due to renew, and i believe they have deliberatley denied him the opportunity to look around, many thanks

Cheers

Did he by any chance agree a continuous payment authority when setting it up? I'm not sure they have to contact you at all, although most do. It's the customers responsibility to keep track at the end of the day.

He can still look elsewhere then phone up and tell them they've taken the money early and he'd like it back.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The usual renewal notice is about 3 weeks but that doesn't have to be via post.
Many insurers now send the renewal via email so unless your on the ball you may miss it.
As previously said , it's down to you to make sure you know what's going on....so many people today seem to need spoon feeding and can't manage their own finances until it's too late.
