Boiler Cover/ Heating Cover

Options
I'm looking at boiler and heating cover, I would be interested in if you think boiler cover and heating cover is worth it. It costs about £15 a month and you get a free service but there is a call out fee of £60. Therefore the annual cost could be more than the cost of a call out of a local boiler engineer.

What are your thoughts on the policies are they worth it.

Mu boiler is around 15 years old and be good to date.

definitely worth it for a 15 year old boiler. What do the T&C's state about obsolete parts etc though?

15 year old boilers tend to lose support so check the T&C's to make sure they can't wiggle out of a claim.

....And have you Googled reviews, or looked at the Energy section of this web site to see if they are mentioned in a negative light?

    1. If you are paying for boiler/heating cover why would you have to pay £60 callout ?
    2. If your boiler is 15 yrs old I very much doubt they will let you sign up as most of the policies state 10 yrs or under at inception
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Many of the cover policies now do include a call out charge which when added to the monthly payments can make them an expensive option.

A cheap monthly payment may not always be the best option

Check out cover provided by the manufacturer. We've an old Vaillant which needed repair and they offered two choices: one off repair, or service contract. We chose the latter which immediately paid for itself plus there's annual service included in the cover. Vaillant seem to be savvy, so first 6 months was £40-£50 a month, for six months, but reduces to £28 a month thereafter if you chose to continue cover. Worth it for peace of mind, because we found that plumbers were no longer prepared to service boilers that they didn't install

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

The advantage of boiler cover (to me) is not having to find a plumber at short notice should you have a breakdown.  Finding an honest plumber in the Yellow Pages is a nightmare.
