Lidl and Aldi both do very good gins. Win prizes for them!

Another vote here for Aldi gin, it's very good.

I've just returned from a holiday on the Isle of Wight - they now have a gin distillery on the island, with free tastings which was utterly ruinous on a hot day when I hadn't had lunch and wasn't planning on doing any driving. Mister CJ practically had to carry me out of the place (along with the two bottles of the lovely Mermaid gin and two bottles of the very strong Victory gin which I bought!).

Lidl Hortus £16 a bottle but well worth it.........as with any decent spirit don't scrimp on the mixer......you wouldn't mix Bacardi with rola cola so dont use cheap tonics with decent gin

It's not easy to work out the mix in the cans but doing some rough maths I think it's just over 30 mls of gin and 120 mls of tonic to make up a 250ml can. So 4:1.

Many years ago, gin (25mil standard pub measure) was served in a wine glass with a small (125ml) bottle of tonic but making a long drink has become a lot more popular recently.

I'd say that the Aldi London Gin is a good substitute for Gordons but there are so many other delightful, distinctive gins around now. I like Bombay Sapphire and Hendricks best.

I'm another that open freezes lemon and lime slices. definitely best with loads of ice too.

    Not that I'm an expert......:o

As I only have the occasional gin, I think tonic is a very important part of the drink.
A friend bought us a gin tasting kit with 4 premium gins and 4 Fevertree tonics, all different tastes and matched with the gin.

It's not cheap but does taste (imho) much nicer than cheaper tonics.
There are a number of different flavours.

I don't like Fentiman's tonic (available in Wethespoons at an uplifted price).
I like Tanqueray gin, Tanqueray 10 and Tanqueray Rangpur.
    - just noticed that they also do a
which sounds lovely so I'll try that when my current supply runs out.

I believe that different gins should have different accompaniments but I don't like the taste of cucumber. I have a stock of sliced frozen limes in the freezer.

Adnans Copperhouse gin is very nice too.

I like tanqueray also. I don't like cucumber in gin as all I can taste is cucumber.

This one is my favourite artisan gin

A pub shot is 20-25ml depending on the bar.. those cans have 1 shot in and are topped up to whatever the can contains with the mixer.. easy enough to work out.. it probably says on it.

The cans are 1 unit of alcohol which is one shot glass .. I'd go with the 25ml for the extra teaspoon of gin!

(I am 100% certain as weightwatchers point their shots and these with diet mixers are 2 points and that is one shot.. I read a lot of interesting articles!)

looked it up... they are 250ml cans with 25ml gin/vodka/whatever and 225ml of diet mixer. 1.25units per can..
