Huge double glazing quote

Options
Hi,

I would love your opinions on a double glazing quote I have received.

14 x windows (includes 10 wood effect upvc Georgian style sash windows the others are small windows I.e. small toilet windows. All windows are ‘laminated glass’.

2 x French doors and 1 x side door. All wooden effect Upvc.

The quote from a popular, established company is over £22,000. I just can’t get my head round it...

Halve it, then knock 50% off, then get quotes from local small companies.

What were you expecting? How does it stack up against others?

If by "popular, established company" you mean one of the big national businesses, how do you think they pay for all that TV and glossy magazine advertising? Go for local firms with good reputations, and get three quotes.
  • It wasnt Everest or anyone like that. It was a local firm with a good reputation. I should receive a second quote on Tuesday. Just shocked really.

    Why? What were you expecting?
  • I was expecting circa £15,000. 900 per sash, 500 each for smaller windows and 1500 per French doors 1000 for side door.

Not a million miles away then. It's plausible that one of the other quotes will come in around that.

Do your research thoroughly on local recommendations. I had some work done by a local firm that had excellent recommendations from friends and although they were marginally more expensive than their competitors, I've been really pleased with them. Part of their work was a conservatory and we've had a tiny weeping joint and a sticking door and they've come out within a few days for each and sorted them, despite having completed the job four years ago.

If you have the dimensions and spec price the units yourself online and see how much the materials are.

    Work back from there.

My neighbour had something similar done and paid about £14k.

(14 windows of various sizes, 2 sliding doors and a back door).

They used a local independent company.

We looked at buying that house before ours and another local independent window fitter estimated around £12 to replace the rotten wooden windows. We bought our house instead as the windows did not need replacing!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Still just £12 for 14 windows is not too bad. :rotfl:
