Need help with credit on a prepaid meter
Hello, I have been with Scottish power on a pre pay meter for over 9 years. Whenever I have received statements from them I’ve always seemed to be in credit. I rang last year after the credit had risen to over £700. I was told there was two meters on the account ??? and that by my next bill it would be sorted. My latest statement still shows a large amount of credit.
I believe I’ve figured out why, I think my tariff is set too high resulting in me overpaying each time I top up. My last statement ends like this
Total electricity costs. - £129.50
VAT 5.00% on £129.50. - £6.48
Total cost for this period. - £135.98
Total paid in top-ups. - £190.00
Your balance carried forward - (credit) £1,362.35
I’m sure this states I am paying too much as I’ve paid more than the electricity costs.
I just need someone to confirm I’m right in my findings and maybe help with how I can claim back my refund without being fobbed off by Scottish power like they have previously done.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

I would take no notice of any letters detailing credit from Scot Power. Just go by what is showing on screen "A " on the meter. That is where your credit ( or debit ) is shown.
You can check if you are on the correct tariff by having a look at screen "H " which will show the current tariff. It should be slightly less than Scottish Powers latest standard/variable tariff. Screen "H " will show the normal single rate tariff0
