M25 to M23?

My husband is driving tomorrow, and getting very neurotic.
He will be coming round the M25 anticlockwise and wanting to join the M23. Apparently there are road works at the moment, and he fears the junction is closed. Can anyone reassure him that he won't have to go all the way up to Hooley and down again? Is there a decent system in place or should he make a wide detour (if so where)?

Use the AA route planner and switch on traffic alerts

He's tried the AA planner, and says
a) It doesn't seem to have been updated recently
b) There are different colours on the route which have no key to show you what they mean (it just looks a complete mess at that junction)

The junction isn't closed.
It's just a 50mph speed limit due a smart motorway being installed0 -
Have a look at Google Maps Traffic.
(Open Google Maps and enter 'Traffic' in the search box)
It shows very slow traffic at that junction on the route your husband will take but the road is open.
He should either allow extra time or come off at Junction 8 and travel via Horley and Gatwick.
My advice would be to go via the M25 and M23 but allow extra time as the Horley route can also be slow and congested. That M25/M23 Junction is often slow moving but rarely at a standstill.
Alternatively, depending on his final destination, he could go past the M23 junction and use the A22 East Grinstead Road.0 -
You are all wonderful. Thank you so much for your help!
Apparently there was a big sign saying it will be closed. Anyone know the dates?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Overnight closures July 27/28Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

If it's anything like when they did the M3 a couple of years ago, it used to mean the M3 was closed over night, usually from 9 till 6, and you had to detour onto the A30. Lane closures only tended to happen during the day,0
