Octopus Expensive?

I switched to Octopus in December and expected my bills to come down after a quote from a door to door salesman. I had a bill online to hand so he had accurate readings. They came down for a few months then since I was in debit got pushed up to balance it out. Was expecting that because of winter but fully expected it to come down in summer but instead they've put it up to even more than I was paying with Scottish Power! Because of change in job and the good summer I am using less energy than last year so I can only think they must be more expensive, has anyone else found this?

I will answer your question here as merging topics in one thread can get confusing. Octopus is not the cheapest supplier but it most certainly isn!!!8217;t the most expensive. I cannot comment on how your annual usage was calculated other than to say that no one can do it from a single bill. When you say paying, I assume that you are talking about your monthly DD payment? This means nothing: this is just money paid on account from which usage charges are deducted.

Have you been providing Octopus with meter readings each month? If not, then they may be billing you on estimates. I am with Octopus for electricity only and I submit meter readings twice a month and the system gives me an up to date bill and credit/debit balance within 24 hours.

What tariff has the man at the door signed you up to? Did you actually check the new tariff price against what was on your old bill. It is worth pointing out that most suppliers have increased prices over the last 12 months; that said, no salesman should ever make inaccurate claims. If they have, then contact Octopus for advice.

I suggest you consult a comparison site to whether Octopus Energy are the cheapest for you or not. (they are not the cheapest for me)
