Council tenant gone into old peoples home

Hi
My nan has been a council tenant for many many years (prob all her life) she has lived in a flat for the past 2 years but has recently had to move and go into an old peoples home (a private one) but it kills me to see her beautiful flat go back to the council while im still living with parents, is there anyway I can purchase it cheap with right to buy thing without affecting my nans nursing home fees ? (I have been told no way no how, but I think thats cos the people telling me maybe dont want me to leave) If my nan owned the flat am I right thinking she would be expected to sell it to fund her home fees ? So in short is there a way I could buy it for myself ? or a way for my nan to buy it and no incur the penalties for going into a home ? Thankyou for reading

    The Right to Buy only applies to the tenant named in the tenancy agreement, so you have no right to buy the flat.

    If you nan did own the flat, she could be forced to sell it if she could not pay the care fees.

    I would think she doesn't actually own the roperty but is just the tenant if that is the case you might be able to take over the tenecy from her ie the flat would become yours then after a few years you could buy it.
    I'd have a word with the local council see if u can take the tenancy over.
    Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts :heart:

    If you take over a tenancy I believe you must have lived there yourself for at least a year, maybe two to even take over the tenancy and then you need another year or two before you have the right to buy. I'm not sure about this as each area might have different rules. It's definitely worth having a word with them as to the possibilities though, depending on availability in your area etc. Are you on the council housing list anyway? Is someone sorting the flat situation out because you don't want to end up in a situation where nan owes the council money for rent but she's in fact been in the home?

    just add your name to her council property,so both your names are on th e rent agreement then ask the council for rtb1 form, you buy it wth her, that way i dont think she has to sell it to fund nurseing care as you live there, she should get the maximum discount as well,worst case is they say no and you get a flat with cheap rent
