Roses from seed?

I have just been given a packet of roses seed, bough in Spain.
There are aroun10 seeds, same principle as other seeds, I guees.
Sow in spring, in pots, lightly cover and hope for the best.

Many seeds won't germinate if you do that. There's quite a large number of plants that benefit from having seeds sown ASAP after production, then left over winter outdoors to be frosted.

This is why attempting to grow some varieties from commercially produced seed may be very unrewarding!

Roses are one of this group of plants that need winter stratification.


Plenty on the internet on how to do it, including faking winter, so no need to reinvent the wheel here.

As to results....they'll probably be mixed, with possibly different habits, but it really depends on the care with which the parents were pollinated etc.
