RE: animal testing and cosmetics

In my view, humans live to an un-natural age anyway. That is why as we get older you get 'aches and pains' and illness like dementia.
Why the hell should animals be exploited for humans? What seperates 'humans' from other animals?
"Animals in laboratories are shocked, infected, burned, poisoned, shot, surgically mutilated and subjected to many other types of torture in order to test all sorts of products, including hair dye, soap, nappies, agricultural and industrial chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs"
Any who thinks it is right to experiment on animals is an idiot. HUMANS ARE NOT A SUPREME SPECIES. Animals do not belong to humans, animals to not owe us anything. We take away their habitats, we pollute their water, we wreak their ocens, distroy the rainforests they live in, and to top it off we cut them open and experiment on them.
Internationally renowned surgeon Dr Bruno Fedi stated, “The abolition of vivisection would in no way halt medical progress, just the opposite is the case. All the sound medical knowledge of today stems from observations carried out on human beings. No surgeon can gain the least knowledge from experiments on animals, and all the great surgeons of the past and of the present day are in agreement on that”
The drugs Thalidomide, Clioquinol and Eraldin were all determined to be safe based on tests on animals, but they had devastating consequences for the humans who used them. Experiments on animals are flawed.0 -
As Faerie Girl said, I also don't feel here is the place to go into it. I used to do information stalls about animal testing, but to be honest I got fed up of trying to tell people things they simply did not want to hear.
I don't understand why some people are so pro animal testing rather than hoping for other methods to be used, but thats my opinion and I respect that others unfortunately don't agree. If it hurts no-one, let it be :beer:0 -
Ksh 123 - I think Co-op is brilliant and very money saving,
it clearly lists no animal experimentation and no animal ingredients on the label. Lush is also brilliant and list which products are vegan and are fully against animal experimentation.
I would say to your daughter that maybe she should keep her original supplies as no good can come to animals/ humans from just wasting products or maybe she could pass them on to others.
I think people tend to believe propaganda about animal testing and think ending animal experimentation will lead to more human deaths rather than it leading to the use of more effective methods of trialing drugs/ cosmetics.
I think it is commendable that she is taking such an ethical, intelligent step at her age. :jHOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

Although the subject was cosmetic testing on animals, the Dr Hadwen Trust is a charity that works to find alternatives to testing medicines on animals:

The Lord Dowding Fund is another one.I support the N.A.V.S.who work alongside them and only wish more money could go into funding alternatives than funding animal suffering.

It's better to do testing on students. Preferably, sociology or media studies types. Many look hideous or haven't washed for several days and so would benefit from this type of testing anyway.0

hello. im the daughter my mum was talking about lol. thank you all so much for replying. i too once thought that all animal testing for cosmetics was against the law. i guess i was just being ignorant. so obviously lush, clinique and the co op are good places to start. but does anyone know about the big fashion houses? where they stand on animal testing for thier cosmetics? in particular YSL, dior, Channel. and what about about hair companies such as redkin and aveda? i love taking time on my makeup and making myself look nice, like most people my age (22) i think nothing of spending my savings on it as it is something which gives me pleasure however i draw the line at funding somthing so awful as tesing on animals. I'm in education at the moment working towards a bachelor of science in animal care and welfare in the hope one day i will be able to work for an organisation such as PETA, so while i enjoy expensive cosmetics and so on, i would give them up tomorrow if i found out they tested on animals. so if anyone can help with my quiries i would apreciate it. there is nothing worse than an hypocrite.
ps if there are any gals out there like me i have just found out that smashbox have done a new eyeshadow pallete for PETA totaly vegan, totaly gorgeous. thanks m xStop looking for answers....

I've just been here: http://www.naturewatch.org/shoppingguide/index.asp
They do a handbag-sized guide for £2.50. If you are only buying 1 you have to pay a 40p transaction fee but hey, it is a charity!
My daughter who as you know is trying to be an ethical consumer but also wants to keep her "luxury" brands (no talking her out of that one, lol. still she doesn't drink or do drugs so who am I to critisise??) is delighted to report that Aveda do not test or use any ingredients tested on animals. That's her hair sorted then!Stop looking for answers....
