Oooo Money! But why??

Took the kids away to Blackpool for a few days last week and came home to find a letter from my Uni telling me they were giving me a discretionary Bursary of £350

Thing is I have no idea why, what criteria I have met for it etc etc. Only one other person in my group has recieved it and he is as clueless as me :p

I have asked staff etc, but my problem is Im a SURF student (Basically meaning Im a Staffs Uni student but my base is at a local college) so finding staff that have a clue about HE workings is difficult.

Any ideas?

  • Um... It'll either be something to do with the amount of support you were entitled to from SLC, or it could be attached to the department you study under - either way, don't complain! ;)

Hey I am at Staffs, I can go and ask the finance people if you want? What college are you at?

Man I hope they do that to me......

Your college or Staffs should be able to tell you for sure, but at a guess...

If you are a HE student and are funded under the 'new' system where fees are variable up to £3,070 this year and you have been awarded the maximum amount of student funding by your local authority (i.e. you get a £2,765 maintenance grant), the University are obliged to give you a bursary of at least £305 (the difference between the £3,070 fees and the £2,765 MG) -some Universities give more than the necessary £305.

That sounds feasible actually, and thinking about it the other guy who has recieved it has children as well, so it may be something to do with that :T
