Learner Insurance

I am planning to buy my own car for practicing when not with the instructor.
I will have someone over age 21 having full UK license for >3 years.
What is the best and cheap way to get a Learner Insurance in this case?
Thanks!

Buy the right car and not what you think you want. Or spend the money on more lessons which could be better value.

I'd ignore the suggestion just to pay for extra lessons. Time spent practising your driving is time well spent, and I imagine that you will keep the car after passing your test.

Don't buy anything flashy or expensive, but don't buy anything too old either. A sensible, low-powered, small hatchback that is only a few years old would be a good guide to the car (think Ford Ka, as an example).

As for the insurance, just use the normal comparison sites to get the best price, but be sure to check the terms of the specific policy.

Be aware that as soon as you pass your test you will no longer be insured, so don't drive it until you have contacted the insurer. Some will continue to insure you - but expect to have to pay another premium - while others won't, and you will need to do another price comparison to find a suitable deal.

Have a look on FirstCar.co.uk they are useful for first time/learner drivers - should find the info you need on there :)
