Black paint around bottom of exterior of house....

Hi all,

I have some black paint which if touched transfers to your hands very easily. It’s around the bottom 3 courses of bricks of my modern rear extension and 4 courses of bricks ( although that appears to behave concreted over)

I’m guessing it’s a method of damp proofing, maybe a bitumen type of paint.

Unfortunately it’s been done many years ago by a previous owner and needs revamping.

Is I best to scrub it off first?

Can I repaint for normal mortar type paint and then maybe use a product like Wickes waterproofing go go over it to keep it all water tight?

Do I have to use the same bitumen type paint?

Any help would be much appreciated

  • Sorry it!!!8217;s also over the 4 courses of the original house. The bricks appear to have been concreted over and then painted with this black paint
