Ortak life time guarentee

Options
Hi I bought jewellery from ortak many years ago. At the time it was sold with a life time guarentee. I contacted ortak yesterday via email to find out how I go about getting it repaired. They responded this morning saying they bought ortak over in 2014 and were not responsible for the guarantee. They are trading at ortak, selling the same jewellery. They do recognise the guarentee in their response but said I'd need to pay them to repair it. Is this correct?

You can buy a trading name without taking over a company. So if it's a different ltd co than the one in 2014 then all rights died with the old company.

Liquidators often sell trading names when they can't find someone to take on the company as a whole, it a trick used many times to dump debt and start afresh.

There's some information about the sale at the link below, it appears they'd gone into administration for some time before the sale so I suspect that the scenario bris has described is what happened.

Sadly it looks like this is the case - yes
