Has anyone ever bought their own door knocker and fitted it themselves to a composite door? Getting a new door but want a door knocker that the company don't do and wondered if there was anything we needed to consider when fitting the door knocker ourselves?
Thanks

I assume you have checked this out with both the door installer and the door manufacturer. My default setting is you are invalidating the door warranty. If so both the installer and the manufacturer will provide little support if they become aware of your actions.
Since composite doors are a reknown source of problems, and call backs, I would not be following your idea.0 -
We have thought about that but I don't understand how it would invalidate the warranty though?
Wonder if it's worth asking if the company will fit it for us when they fit they door?0 -
You would be modifying the door which is often the cause of an invalidated warranty.
Most places will wriggle out of a warranty if the opportunity presents itself.
Best ask the company. At worst they will say no:)0 -

We had the company who supplied our door fit a catflap in it which we gave to them to fit, so I can't see why they couldn't fit a door knocker.
Our catflap was fitted the wrong way round so the chaps who did the install had to cut it out and put it in the correct way round. We'd supplied them with the fitting instructions.....Make £2025 in 2025

You need to make sure you don't tighten the bolts too much, as this will start to compress the door.
I removed the knocker from my door, as I got fed up with itinerant tradesmen knocking and ringing at the same time, as if there was some sort of emergency.0 -
Give the knocker to whoever is manufacturing the door, get it done in the factory - it's not exactly taxing for them to fit yours instead of theirs!

That won't work, if it's beyond your fitter to drill a couple of holes is he up to the job of fitting a door?0 -
No need for a knocker affixed to the door.
Numpties will use their knuckles to do it, because they don't hear the bell ring if the door seals are fitting correctly (judging by the lots that do it here).0
