It's a little like Bluetooth pairing in that both devices have to be looking for one another at the same time for it to work.

Thank you. That really helps explain it. It was WPS that I meant. Sorry for the mistake. A light came on on the router when I pressed the button but it went off soon after (which now makes sense).
I just didn’t have a clue what I was doing and was worried in case I’d ruined the security on my WiFi!0 -
