Barcelona 2 nights

can anyone recommend a place to stay in Barcelona for a couple of nights I've never been, looking for some tips. Are there decent rail links if I decide to get a room on the coast, etc.

There`s a Travelodge in Barca and it`s only 20 euros (£15) a night.
Just out of the city and easily reached by train.

i liked Sitges, 30 mins on a train with frequent trains to Barcelona. we have stayed at the Husa Oriente and Petit Palace Garden Ramblas, centrally located!

I'd recommend doing a search on Venere - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

www.habitatapartments.co.uk Try colum 1 or 2 if you like some night life - it's right on the Ramblas which is near pretty much anything you might want to see or do. They have loads of places though (im staying in colum 1 in February and cant wait!) about 270 euros for 3 nights for two people!
