Homeaway - Total Scam!

Options
So I was looking at villas,

Never used home away before but have used booking.com

I sent a enquiry to possibily book and it asked for card details if you had decided to go ahead you would be debited.
It was late and I didnt really understand what I was getting involved with... however sent the enquiry and it sent me an email with a fee of £400 for cleaning etc, which I didnt see, so I thought, it makes it more expensive than I expected, I will keep looking.

Anyway, woke up in the morning to my enquiry being accepted and the full £1700 been taken from my card, I of course messaged straight away and requested a cancellation... less than12 hours after unknowingly booking it!

The owner agreed the cancellation but I am now informed by Homeaway that unless u cancelled by the 19th June (was "booked" the 20th of July. the owners cancelation policy means I wont get a refund,

I mean how is this legal? Ive lost all this money ive saved all year for our family holiday. Im devastated.

We have booked flights and now have no money for a hotel. Im really lost.

Home away are useless, I paid on a debit card if that helps?

Thanks for anyones help!
