I received an email in the small hours this morning (too hot to sleep!) addressed to [email]gift3@winners-x1.cf, which is obviously not my email address, but intrigued me as it had 'winners' in it! Natch!

Google tells me this is a real company, but as far as I know I am not subscribed to any Google groups, never even heard of them.

Clever IMO - not so obvious for you to delete straight away - with a hint that will you want to contact them ''just in case'' then you will get the hard sell.

The .cf domain at the end of the email address you quote, means that this is the upper level domain of the Central African Republic. These, along with others, provide free domain names and are notoriously used by scammers and phishers.

However, Celsius Design looks like a perfectly genuine and honest company.

I suspect that some scammer has spoofed your email address (as they do) and used it to send out their dodgy emails, one of which has gone to Celsius Designs where the recipient is away and has his "out of office" set. So his email has sent out the automatic out of office response which has then come to you as the "spoofed" address.

This is all guesswork and I'm no expert on these things. You may get a better answer on the Techie Stuff board.

That sounds like the answer thingy. I didn't know about the cf connection, thanks. I have had a considerable increase in emails giving me squillions of dollars recently, including one from The Microsoft Lottery (my email address won) and The Facebook Lottery. All in my junk folder, but I check for accidental prize junk regularly.
