Boots- 3 for 2 Xmas offer

I had a 3 for 2 offer last year, normal price was £10 each. One was an alarm clock that was faulty but when I took it back they had no replacements. I asked for my money back then but they said I could not have it as the alarm clock was the "free" item???????????
I was very grudgingly reimbursed when I turned round and told the queue of customers waiting what the problem was.
Its not the first time I have had problems with Boots replacing faulty items. They just cannot do it gracefully, or is it just the Walsall shop.

How can you get money back if the item was £0 on the receipt ?
I guess they should divide the £20 / 3 so £6.66 is what you should have gotten back.
Legally im not sure where you stand tho, seems a tricky one.0 -
You should at least be entitled to a replacement "free" item to the same value as the clock, in my opinion.
Good strategy, talking to the queuing customers though, hehe.0 -

Proper jobsworths at Walsall  especially on the photo and electrical counter.
I would have asked them how long it has been company policy to give away !!!! that doesn't work, to their customers0 -
You were lucky to get a refund, because that means you've now had "buy 1 get 1 free" rather than "3 for 2"!!! (otherwise everyone would do this if they knew the replacement wasn't available any more!)
They should have offered you another item at the same price or replacement, or £10 voucher if the neither of the latter were suitable!
I've always found them quite good at replacing faulty things.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
In my opinion Walsall Boots is the worst for Customer Service in these parts. Last Christmas I was refused the free gift with No7 items as I was buying a few items and claiming the free gifts with them. I was told that I could only have one. I left the goods and ordered online when I got home and the free gifts were automatically sent to me. I contacted Customer Services and was told that it was a 'Training Issue' with the store and they apologised. I find the staff at Cannock Boots much more helpful.0
