11:05 23Apr09 UK CBI: April Industrial Output Balance -32 Vs Mar -48
LONDON -- U.K. industrial production posted its strongest monthly
balance for six months in April as firms forecast that the worst of recession is
now behind them, the Confederation of British Industry said Thursday.
The CBI's April industrial trends survey showed the industrial output balance
strengthened to -32 from -48 in March.
"The first quarter of 2009 was extremely tough for U.K. manufacturers but
this survey shows firms hope that the worst may be behind them, with the pace of
decline slowing slightly," said Ian McCafferty, the CBI's chief economic adviser.
"Firms are hopeful that the pace of decline in manufacturing activity will
moderate slightly in the next three months, and general sentiment is falling less
rapidly," he said.
A breakdown of the April CBI data still showed broadbased weakness, but the
rate of decline for most balances slowed.
Total orders ticked up to -57 in April from -58 in March, while stock levels
fell for the first time since November, indicating a partial recovery of demand,
the CBI said. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
