Unexpected CCJ Help?

Hi everyone
New to the forums, a friend had a similar experience to me with parking eye a couple of years back and said the advice and help they got on here was invaluable so here I am...
I received a letter yesterday at my home address from Lowell Solicitors about outstanding CCJ arrears, this is the first I’ve heard of this CCJ, I regularly check my credit report with Noddle and up until recently had an account with Equifax, with both of these there are no defaults or CCJ’s. The reason for this I’m assuming is that I changed my surname nearly twenty years ago and changed everything accordingly apart from my phone bill with Orange, now the debt is with Orange, going back around 5 years ago I was an Orange customer but not ‘in contract’ and was experiencing continuous difficulties with their service, after a discussion with one of their operatives explaining my issues I explained I was leaving and would be joining a different provider as I relied on my phone for work and it was losing me money and that’s what I did. I didn’t port my number, I just started a new contract. A couple of months later I moved home and to be honest haven’t thought about it until yesterday. I’ve got no idea where I stand legally, I obviously don’t want to ignore it and I want to resolve the situation as well as getting the CCJ removed. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

You owe the money as you chose to leave and not pay the remainder of the contract etc.
Pay it and if paid within 30 days of issue then it will be removed.0 -
Hi Gary, I understand that I owe the original debt, from the look of the letter the CCJ has already been issued and they!!!8217;re asking for the arrears, I!!!8217;d of thought I could have the CCJ removed on the basis I couldn!!!8217;t contest it or answer it as I didn!!!8217;t know about it?0

The onus was on you to provide a forwarding address.
You can apply to have it set aside but there!!!8217;s no guarantee that will go through0 -
Thanks for your reply, I didn!!!8217;t give them a forwarding address as I thought I would have no further dealings with them.0

So what happened with your old contract and (presumably) the direct debit that was paying the bill?0
-
I wasn!!!8217;t in contract, I cancelled the direct debit the same day as I had the conversation with them, I was under the impression they would waive the 30 day notice period after all the problems( should of clarified in writing I know)0

Awful lot of assumptions on your part. You sure it wasn't a case of two fingers up to them thinking they wouldn't catch up with you?
If so, bad move as you have found out.0 -
Under the impression why?
Well now we know0 -
BoGoF no naive maybe but not a two fingers up scenario, my credit history apart is 100%0
-
Under the impression because that!!!8217;s what was said on the phone, the problems were going on for a few weeks I was constantly on the phone to customer services, the call centre staff were as useless as the service!!!55357;!!!56900;0
