Van no claim not accepted for car?

Hey all, I have recently been told that my no claims discount will not be accepted from driving my van (a caddy) when trying to use it for my new car (an insignia). Where do I stand with this as I'm now well into my policy. I don't have the money to pay for whatever extra they decide to charge me!! I changed from my caddy to my insignia.
It wouldn't be so bad but I lost all of my NCD a few years ago due to a brain tumour. I have NEVER been at fault in well over a decade of driving and this seems hugely unfair. Any light on the situation would be great.
Thanks guys!

It's the norm
You may be able to get a better deal going elsewhere (a local broker -not Swinton - may be able to help)
But bear in mind going elsewhere will mean cancellation fees and you will still have to pay the premium increase from the start of your policy to the cancellation date.
Your "lost" ncd was presumably because you were stopped from driving?
If so it was not lost, but became out of date as you didn't buy any insurance whilst your licence was revoked - though if that was the situation, you saved on paying for insurance during your enforced break0 -
Some insurers are quite generous in letting you keep your NCD after you cancel a policy. Admiral told me it was 3 years.0
