Windows update problem

Hoping someone can advise me on this one:
Laptop with Windows 7.
I keep getting a prompt to install a windows update Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.273.164.0)

This has repeatedly been offered to install and has done so ten times. There is no way of stopping it apart from hiding it but it then reappears the next time I open the laptop. The only thing I can do is to uninstall Microsoft Essentials. Maybe this will cure it??

Any suggestions??

If you install a later Definition I wonder if that would fix it?
Using Internet Explorer search the catalogue
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=KB2310138
and download the latest Definition (205 at time of posting).

Alternatively install another antivirus program and let the new one override the Windows one

No need. Can simply update via the Security Essentials interface. Just click on the update tab. Latest being (Definition 1.273.212.0)
