National Insurance payment question

Options
hi all

I've had a letter from HMRC asking me to tell them how much NI i have paid for 17/18.

So, I've looked at my P60 which says contributions for the year are 3570. I'm presuming that this is how much NI i should have paid ?

My payslip for March 2018 says i have paid 5572 for the year. But when i add the NI for my new job and the NI for my old job that i left in June 2018 they add up to 5303.

I'm now confused, why don't the numbers add up ? What info should I be giving back to them ?

Thanks
Stu

The payslips/P60 for each job only show the NIC deducted on that job only - it's NOT like gross pay and tax where the later employment forms shows pay/tax for all employments.

Also watch out on the documents to check you're looking at the right figures as they'll show both employee NIC and employer NIC, so you need to be looking only at the employee NIC figures.

Tax year 17/18 ended on 5 April 2018 so anything after that eg job change June 2018 has no bearing on it.
To check your NI figures you need to give the full details....
From your P60 for 17/18 tax year there will be 4 columns for NI (If you had more than one NI letter there will be two or more sets of these figures Unlikely but possible) headed along the lines of earnings to LEL, LEL to PT, PT to UEL and contributions on earnings.
Did you have more than one job for which payment was received anytime from 6/4/17 to 5/4/18
Were you employed for the full tax year if not how many payslips did you receive?
For each job or just the one if only one from the last payslip for the year ie month 12 or if weekly paid week 52 ( or 53 54 56 unlikely but possible) Your year to date NI contributions and your gross to date.
Were you paid roughly the same each payday?
