Oven door falling off

I'm looking for advice. We bought a zanussi electric oven around two years ago from Currys.. It's been a great cooker but just recently the door has been falling off. It's a design fault as you can see that the pin at the top of the door doesn't fit into the hole but sits just under. I know that the retailer is who we complain to but the fact we've had the oven two years and this problem has only been happening for a few weeks has me thinking we may not have a case for a replacement. Do we have a case for a free repair though?

If you can prove there is an inherent fault you are entitled to either a free repair or a replacenent. Trader gets to choose which.

Possibility that the bottom hinge bracket has come loose and the door has dropped, 2 min fix with a screwdriver tighting the bottom hinge

You have no right to a free repair, since both your retailer and manufacturer's warranties have presumably expired after one year. Don't waste your time with DSG, ask Electrolux nicely and you might be lucky. It might be a known fault. Sounds as if the bottom hinge has dropped, so the top pin is now too low to engage at the top.
PS: had you bought this from JL, they would have price-matched it, and you would have had a 2 year warranty included.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thanks for the advice. Never thought about the bottom hinge having dropped. Hubby is going to take a look. Failing that I'll contact Electrolux.

Why on earth would they not be entitled to a free repair from the retailer?

One would certainly expect a cooker to fulfil its basic function as a cooker for a lot longer than two years!

As the door is now falling off thus impairing the usage of the cooker I would certainly be thinking this is an inherent fault as you would not expect a cooker door to cease working after only 2 years.

The door can come off most ovens to allow it to be cleaned. On some it can be a bit tricky getting them locked back in place. Definitely worth checking the manual.

The OP is now out of warranty and so has to rely on their statutory rights under CRA 2015. After 6m, they will have to prove an inherent fault. DSG would have to pay Electrolux for the callout and they are notorious for not allowing any discretion in such cases where they have to foot the bill.
Hopefully, all that is required is for the OP to reinsert the locator pin and tighten the hinge screws.
