We have booked to Tunisia for sept 2018, all paid for. My friend has been told she has to have a major operation on 24th august, she cant cancel the op as the surgeon is insisting she has it done and done quick. What I need to know is the best way to cancel her from the holiday without it costing either of us a fortune. I still intend going on my own as I have other friends who are staying in the same hotel a few days later so wont be on my own for long, plus I have holidayed solo before. If we cancel with the tour company Thomas Cook can they then charge me more for single occupancy? Or is she better just claiming via her holiday insurance. TIA Sue

Insurance claim unless it was a condition she should have declared.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

If you don't cancel her off she can't claim off her travel insurance. If its pre existing and she didn't tell the insurance company then she can't claim anyway. I take it you are going within 12 weeks so she will lose more than just her deposit, it gets more as it gets nearer.
You need to ask TC as not all packages will let one sleep in the room so you may not even be able to go on your own. Single supplements for Tunisia generally aren't too bad.
Can't you take a friend and do a name change?0 -
Who is the lead traveller - i.e. in whose name is the booking? If it is in your name, are you even able to cancel one member of the party, and not the whole trip? Find out how much cancellation would be for your friend, and if its possible, and if the cancellation fee is 100% of the cost, can your friend just not "no show"? Note - any change in costs to _you_, I would expect your _friend's_ insurance to cover. They should speak with their insurers.0
