depends on your market
I would always go for .co.uk if the united kingdom is your only market, or .com if for a multitude of countries
search ranking depends on other thingsEx forum ambassador

if both available - buy both and direct them at the same hosting space. For the price of the domains its highly worth doing this0

I like .com, gives the impression of being number 1, if you get a .co.?? sounds like you got a second choice in the naming game, just my opinion, we've all heard the phrase ".com millionaires", not so many ".co.uk millionaires"There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

Nonsense!
It all depends on your market and how you want to market yourself to your customers.
Some customers like to see a local country company, which .co.uk shows. Some like the "global" presence of .com
Many large companies with .com domains, have indivudal country specific ones, either using it as a redirect to the country specific page on the .com site, or having separate pages for the correct market.
Look at www.amazon.co.uk you go to this for UK sales, you go to www.amazon.com is you are in the US for US sales.
Or try www.microsoft.co.uk - this routes to the UK area of the .com site.
Also how many people who know how to use Google, restrict their searches to the .co.uk section to get more accurate and less US biased results - most professionals and power users I know for certain.
If you can't decide and both are available, get both. (.coms are more expensive than .co.uk domains)
I own several of both for different company and product names, but always use the .co.uk versions, as I've found my customers prefer it, then I just route any web requests to the .com back to .co.uk I only deal with the UK market though.0 -
I think .com has more kudos (if that's the correct word)

I'm with isofa on this. If I'm shopping I tend to look at .co.uk sites unless I know the .com is a UK specific site.free4440273 wrote: »I think .com has more kudos (if that's the correct word)

So presumably you always go to sites like https://www.ebay.com or https://www.amazon.com because they have more kudos rather than going to the .co.uk versions?
As hendersonb said, if both the .com and .co.uk are available get them both. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I also look for .co.uk when buying stuff.
But if you are going to be a global seller get .com but as others said it would be best to get both even if you intend to just use one for now.0 -
for the low price of domain names, get both. if still available.Get some gorm.0

Some search engines take whether a regional domain (.co.uk) into consideration when returning search results. How much weight they give to it is another matter.

thanks guys.......given me alot of food for thought...
i have opted for the .co.uk... on this particular website.. there is no selling.... but offering the services.... that our company offers... and what we buy etc......
but i am also going to setup another website later on down the line selling items..... and your opinions on buy from .com or a .co.uk based company..... as made me think about what to go for later on......Work to live= not live to work0
