I had a similar problem with mine when I had a plaster on a broken wrist. I am not sure what it was I was catching or with what but since I have had the plaster off it doesn't happen so often.

the mouse 'pad' some are more sensitive than others and just by touching it it picks it up as a double click and moves your cursor.

I think with me it was my sleeve that would catch the pad as I reached across to the keyboard.

Unfortunately the plaster was on my right wrist which made for interesting typing :o

Margaret, until I got used to my laptop I found that the heel of my hand would sometimes just brush against the mouse pad without me realising it and cause this kind of problem.

If you go into the control panel and lower the sensitivity that might help, but it will also slow things down when you do want to use the mouse pad properly.
