classified as disabled

Hello.

I have a 19 year old son with disability and was recently granted a high mobility in his PIP. His father is his main carer and driver. In the leaflet attached to the PIP grant it states we can apply for free road tax so went to post office to apply. they look at the logbook/registration and filled up the form and they said they will forward it to DVLA,. post office said to wait for the new registration.

my question is..the car registration is registered to my husband. when the renewed registration arrived it classified him as disabled.

my son is disabled and with PIP not my husband. will being classified as disabled change the insurance or anything else?

thank you

I can't answer the question on whether the insurance would change. I do know that your husband will now only be able to use the car for your son's purpose and he won't be able to use it for his own personal use. See here.

The car registration document will classify the car as disabled, not the registered keeper. As Poppy says though if this is Dad's car, he can no longer use if other than for your son's purposes.

The taxation class has been changed from PLG to disabled.
