Credit Rating Low due to a Mistake

Hello everyone - first post - need advice on this.
I had an account with Santander Bank - which was zero balance - then had a charge for 1 pound from ebay, which was not authorized, and called santander and told them - I assumed they had dealt with it - but they didnt - and this ended up being 500 pounds and more with interest, because I was not in the country and nobody forwarded me the letters.
It was sold to Lowell Financial Ltd - a company that does not exist it seems - i contacted financial ombudsman, they said its not in England, but in one of the Isles, which they forwarded to - and then those people said that company does not exist there either.
Long story short - I contacted santander told them this - they refunded the payment and said sorry (i still have that letter) - which I forwarded to the debt collectors and paid them - and told them the situation was entirely a mistake - which they didn't believe - as now my credit is poor - from Good rating.
It has been 2 years I have been trying to resolve this and get this removed from my credit history - but experian or any credit company does not believe me - and the above debt collecters arent even a registered company - financial ombudsman are useless as they said the company doesnt exist.
What the hell do I do? This is not justice and this has caused so much stress in my life, I don't even know where to begin. Can someone help me? is there a lawyer I can talk to, kind of no win-no fee? or what?

Do a google search for Lowell Financial. They are the top entry. 10 seconds to find and are a well know debt collection agency.
So much about this seems unlikely0 -

If you search for Lowell you will see "Lowell Financial Ltd" does exist. Not sure how you decided it didn't exist.0

Lowell do exist.
But you!!!8217;re saying you!!!8217;ve paid them? Is that correct?
And you don!!!8217;t have a ruined credit rating since one does not exist0 -
So you went overdrawn by £1 which ended up being £500 with interest, and santander refunded you - the £1 or the full £500?
You then paid Lowell, a debt collection agency, who I assumed have marked your file as settled (or have you just paid them £1).
Your "score" is poor because the default (or did it go as far as CCJ), and your complaint is that you have paid it and they are not removing the default.
Lowell won't remove it because you've paid, it was a defaulted debt and you paid it! Simply paying it does not mean it gets removed, just updated to say it's been settled.
More information is needed0 -

A well known debt collection company that is featured on the debt forums quite a bit.
The debt record will disappear off your credit file six years from when it was first recorded.0
