Possible scam?

A few days ago i recieved a telephone call from 'halifax', i was out at the time so gave them a ring when i got home. The lady at customer service checked my account and said all was ok with it and no log had been made of them attempting to contact me. A few hours later 'Halifax' phoned me back wanting me to confirm all kinds of information and attempting to sell me insurance on my credit card Now I do have a credit card with Halifax but I was under the impression you took out the insurance when you applied for the card? Do you think this was a scam ?

We get this all the time, yet when you contact Halifax yourself they always claim to have no record of contacting you.
I am under the impression that it isn't Halifax exactly that is contacting you but a sales/marketing company under Halifax's employment.
I always refuse to answer any questions as I just state "You contacted me, so I don't feel secure in confirming any details with you. I don't require anything that you are trying to sell, and if I did need any extra products from you I shall contact you myself" This generally gets rid of them. If not then it is just one button click to cut them off.
At the end of the day, if anything was wrong with your account Halifax would send you a letter, any cold calling will just be sales.
