Bank has lost my personal data
Comments

I am not suggesting there was any malice.
From my conversations with the bank, not one person there has a clue what happened. So how does anyone know where it is?
I am 99% certain that it maybe just got lost or binned, but as the bank have no proof or idea what happened, how can I be sure?
I am not after a quick buck at all, I just want this account sorted. An apology would be nice, and maybe some sort of small compensation to cover the 20 mile round trips I have made there several times now, and the parking charges I have to pay each time, all caused by their incompetence.
They are the ones who asked me to take the info in, so I wrongly assumed they would take care of it, and pass it on to the person they said they would.
Its not like i was creating a new account. My girlfriend has been with them for years, all we was doing was adding me as an extra name on the account.0 -
The bank have no idea what happened. It certainly hasn't been scanned as not one single person appears to have any record of my details.
If they had scanned it, then it would not be so bad.
But I have given them a bank statement with all my personal details, address, account number, and every single transaction I made in a month, and not one person at Natwest have a clue where it is, where it was put, where it has been.0 -
I think you told us that already. It's lost so obviously they don't have a clue where it is.
What is someone, a baddie, going to do with all that incredibly valuable information?
Get over it. Please.0 -

OK, that's pretty much the dictionary definition of "lost". Do you panic like this every time you lose something? If in the future you have any evidence that your data has fallen into the wrong hands then you could certainly start jumping up and down but for now assume it's been binned, destroyed or misplaced. An apology would be nice, and maybe some sort of small compensation to cover the 20 mile round trips I have made there several times now, and the parking charges I have to pay each time, all caused by their incompetence.
Fair enough, perhaps mention this to the bank when you return with replacement documents, assuming you still want the joint account. Not sure why this couldn't have been resolved by a single visit, or perhaps by email/phone.Its not like i was creating a new account. Not to be pedantic but you would probably have been creating a new customer profile, i.e going through 90% of the same process as if you were approaching the bank as a new customer opening an account. The days of just adding additional parties to the account with nothing more than an introduction from the existing account holder are long gone.: )0 -
From ICO Guide:
https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr-1-0.pdfif personal data is accidentally lost, altered or destroyed, you [the organisation] should be able to recover it and therefore prevent any damage or distress to the individuals concerned....In short, there will be a personal data breach whenever any personal data is lost, destroyed, corrupted or disclosed...or accidentally lost or destroyed.
Natwest ought to have reported this themselves as a data breach to the ICO.0
