Question Heir Hunters - How much time do I have?

.... deceased was unmarried and the other siblings of my Grandfather have either not had children and/or they are also deceased. My uncle is the oldest living relative and my mother the next - does this seem a little more promising? I'm not sure how far down the family they will go and where the buck stops - for instance am I entitled to anything if my mother is living?
Pot splits into two.
On your side anybody who is alive would inherit - also anybody who is dead but had children.
If your mum/uncle are the ONLY two who are alive or had children on your side of the family then your half of the pot is split into two.
Uncle and Mother get half their half of the pot each. 1/4 of the estate.
You get nothing. Nobody else gets anything.
But .... if, say, one of your uncles had an illegitimate child that pops out of the woodwork, then they'd have also been entitled to an equal share. Their deceased parent would've got 1/3rd, so they'd (probably) inherit that 1/3rd, reducing your uncle and mum's portion to 1/3rd.
Are you sure nobody had kids? Or adopted?
If, say, on the other side of the claim, the other half of the original pot, turned out to have ZERO heirs, that half of the pot would also come your way in exactly the same split... but if there is even one heir on the other side they'd get the lot.0 -
Just wondering PasturesNew, why does the pot split into two at the level of the deceased cousin's parents?0

it doesn't,
If no living parents and there are/were no siblings(or decendants) and no living grand parents then it is uncles/aunts and they have equal status(living or dead) at that level.0 -
