Mileage confusion (HPI check)

Hi all

Im looking at buying a car today, all is good except there;s been a flag on the HPI check for the mileage not matching.

Here is what the report says

50519796-0737-43_DB-8_B69-3224_C9_A1293_D.jpg

Having done a MOT history check it says

- October 2008 10,996
- October 2009 16,993
- October 2010 22,000

Etc

The car is currently listed as having done 57,000 miles and all the MOT history supports this.

However that entry on the DVLA for 152,000 miles is confusing me.

My thoughts are that its a typo and someone has entered an extra zero as 15k would make more sense.

Any other thoughts pls before I buy?

Thanks very much

Afraid the image is unreadable. (EDIT That's better - should be 15k by the looks of it)

Is there a service history for the vehicle? If that matches the MOT then I'd wager it's down to finger trouble somewhere down the line.

Thanks for the reply - only service history from the last few years.
    Appreciate your thoughts on this

    Add the two lists together:
    4/06 - 7,200
    7/08 - 152,000
    10/08 - 10,996
    10/09 - 16,993
    10/10 - 22,000
    1/13 - 33,000
    (etc)

In that context, it's clear the 152k is wrong. It's just not even remotely likely that it had 145k put on it in 27 months, then got clocked back to 11k a couple of months later.

Was it 15,200? Eminently possible, but why would it then be clocked back to 11k a couple of months later? ~15k is still low for a ~3yo car - there's simply no benefit in clocking it then. If you asked me to guess, I'd say that 10,200 was the correct figure, with abysmal handwriting on a V5C at change of keeper to blame for the confusion between a 5 and a 0, with an extra 0 creeping on the end.

This was all a decade ago, anyway - so surely the most important question is what condition is the car in now?
  • Loads of vehicles out there have the incorrect mileage recorded (human error)

Even if it is obvious that it's a mistake someone will moan about it when you come to sell.
