I am going to buy a new camera (Fuji 9600). It takes XD and Compact flash cards. I have no idea which one to get. Then there are memory sizes and speeds to think about.
The camera is 9mp. So it might take a while to store that on a card?
I was thinking Compact flash 2GB 120x speed. This one
I have a limited knwledge of cards although I am pretty good with the photographic side of things.... 35mm .
Advice welcome

Compact flast are quick and can be got for good prices. XD come in 2 speeds but are not that cheap, Its a good storeage method but given the option I would got for compact flash as when it comes to the point you buy a DSLR they use CF cards.
I curently use XD in my Olympus camera.0 -
I would use XD cards simply for the fact my laptop has a built in reader for it - rather than carry round a usb card reader.
I don't think that it will make any noticable difference to the use of the camera whatever you choose.
XD are slightly more expensive compared to CF cards but with todays memrory card prices that difference is negligable.0 -
XD cards a re a format developed by Olympus and Fuji, to the best of my knowledge they are the only companies that use them. So if you think in future you may replace your camera with an SLR get Compact Flash. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
You can pick up a Lexar Professional CF card on ebay pretty cheaply, I got a 133x speed, 4GB card for £35 including the delivery from a reputable source (forget who, but it wasn't from Hong Kong). They're just about the best ones around and the ones of choice of most sport photographers at Allsport.
If you're serious about photography, then the CF card readers tend to be quicker and there are a number of high-speed FireWire around reasonably cheaply.0 -
If you intend to do a lot of "movie" shots, then avoid the XD cards. The small print on a lot of them says they dont like movies. I think it's a heat problem.
I've used both in my Fuji and am sticking to XD at the moment because I've had some weird effects using CF cards (corrupted shots).0 -
One advantage of CF over XD, is the maximum size.
XD maximum size is 2GB, CF is 64GB, though 8Gb is the maximum that most will likely see out on t'internet
Now I know most people won't ever use more than 2GB, but if you start using RAW format, which if you are a relatively serious about photography, you might, then you could be limiting yourself0 -

Are you perhaps getting confused with SD cards? Most laptops will have SD readers in them but I've never heard of one with an XD reader.

Thanks for the replies. There does not seem to be any significant difference between the 2. I dio have a CF reader in the computer, but I have had no problem in the past downloading straight from the camera either. Will I notice much of a difference in the speed of the card?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0
