OP, you should learn how to read the signage on approach, if your not certain ask your passengers, then you should get a lesson on how to enter and signal correctly on roundabouts.
Driving is by far the most dangerous activity the vast majority of people will ever undertake and they have no real clue.

If you took the time to read my first post properly you would see that technically the left hand lane was also the correct lane to take for both the first exit and also the second to cross over the roundabout.

I would be checking when in the left lane too. A motorcycle, scooter or, in slow traffic, a bicycle could easily be trying to exit between you and the edge of the road. They would be foolish and wrong to try, but a mirror check by you might avoid a messy interlude.
A pedal cyclist is allowed to keep to LH lane regardless of his intended exit.

Its not that they're allowed to stick to the left hand lane, they're supposed to stick to the left hand lane. Although admittedly its not a "must" so isn't backed by law - but then neither are the sections of THC that advise drivers to pay particular attention for cyclists or give them plenty room when passing.

To be fair ... you waffled.

Any chance of a link to google streetview of the roundabout, taken from the point where you were just approaching it?

I must admit that if I'm going straight over in a "busy but local usage" roundabout where there are 3 lanes and I want the middle one, as soon as I pass the first exit and start indicating that I'm exiting the roundabout I always take a peek out of the corner of my left eye to check nobody's trying to nip up the inside and over the hashed area "just in case".

Indicating right, while in the left lane, would confuse anybody - and somebody overtaking you might not even see that due to the timespan it could've occurred in.

If in doubt.... always follow the correct route for the lane you're in - then come back at the roundabout again and have another go.

Particularly as the HC recommends that cyclists taking a right turn at a roundabout stay in the left lane signalling right.

Signals and position. When taking the first exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

signal left and approach in the left-hand lane
keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave.

When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
signal right and approach in the right-hand lane
keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise
select the appropriate lane on approach to and on the roundabout
you should not normally need to signal on approach
stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

When there are more than three lanes at the entrance to a roundabout, use the most appropriate lane on approach and through it.

OP, if you were signalling left for the 1st exit until the very last moment and it was a dual-lane exit, the other driver could claim you changed your mind when it was too late, although it does sound like you were 'carved up' by a BMW or Audi driver.

Any cyclist who turns right from the left hand lane is unlikely to live very long

OP seems reluctant to provide this information.

A pedal cyclist is allowed to do whatever they like, because the rules of the road don't apply to them.
