Lost Emails

Hi Forum: I am using Internet Explorer 6 and I had a folder with incoming e-mails in it. I changed the name of the folder and now all the contents have disappeared and the folder is empty. Where have they gone and is there anyway of retrieving them?
I am really stumped.
Many thanks.

  • did you change the name in an online email or on your computer? If you did it on your computer and your running xp or vista, do a system restore...they should return (if your lucky)

When you say 'change the name of the folder', do you mean you renamed it in Windows Explorer, or that you went into 'Tools/Options - Maintenance tab' in Outlook Express and changed the location of the Store Folder?
If the former, try going to 'Tools/Options', clicking on the Maintenance tab, clicking on the 'Store Folder' button and seeing what is in there - if it isn't the folder you renamed, that is why your renamed folder is empty. You should be able to change the folder so that it points to your renamed one.

Alternatively, do a search on your hard drive for .dbx files - these are the message folders for Outlook Express and if you can find them, you should be able to restore the messages by foing into 'File/Import/Messages...', selecting the appropriate version of Microsoft Outlook Express in the list that appears, and, on the next panel, browsing to the location in which you found the 'missing' .dbx files.
    Hope this helps!

Thank you. I will give that a try when I get home.
I had right clicked on the folder name, and used the option to RENAME.
    Thanks once again.
