Blight Watch web site

Options
This free web tool may of use/interest to anybody who grows tomatoes or potatoes. I don't know how accurate it is. It seems to base its results on temperature/humidity. You just enter your postcode and it predicts the likelihood of blight spores thriving in your area. In my case, the result was accurate (No blight)

I've belonged to this site for a number of years and have had about four blight warnings for my post code this summer.

With today's rain and possibly more hot weather forecast for the coming week I'm expecting another warning imminently. This is just as my outdoor tomatoes are laden with fruit. I no longer have any Dilthane fungicide now the EU has banned it but have a large old net curtain handy to throw over some of my tomato plants in the faint hope it may provide some protection from blight spores in the air. Covering them with garden fleece may also provide a degree of protection. Greenhouse plants are less vulnerable but plants grown on an allotment where there will be lots of other vulnerable tomato plants around don,t really have much chance of surviving.

Just another hazard of being a vegetable gardener I'm afraid,:D
