When people give cars for part exchanges, to private sales companies,
what factors do they consider for giving a price, for the car you are handing over?

I don't understand what a "private sales company" is.
But there could be a hundred things:-
Mileage
Condition
Colour
Petrol or diesel
Leather or fabric seats
Does it stink of wet dog
Time of the Month/Quarter/Year
Is it their brand
Have they had issues with that model in the past
Recent sales/auction prices
Do you look like a sap
Have you irritated the dealer.
Do they have a buyer in mind
etc etc...........0 -
How desperate is the seller
Will it need to go to auction
What's the mark up on the other car0 -
Condition
Mileage
Colour
History
Spec
Number of owners
Which engine/gearbox combo
How trust worthy does the seller seem
How desirable is the part ex
A lot of it comes down to how sellable the part ex is. Much rather have an 09 old shape Meriva in chop than an 07 Pathfinder or 5 Series0 -
If its a buying site, such as WBAC they may well have underwriters / dealers looking for a particular type of car (for example a Mercedes dealer might want used Mercedes < 30K miles, and is prepared to give "over book" price for such cars.
It may be that with an older car they know they'll have to auction it therefore they'll be offering below auction price.0 -
All that matters to them is how much money they make on the entire deal. All that matters to you is how much money you pay out on the entire deal. They may offer a good trade-in price if they think that will please you, then no discount on what you're buying. Or they may offer a good discount but a lousy trade-in. Or anything in between.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Simple answer = how much they fetch at auction currently. Offer less than that and your good to go.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Mileage, Specs, Number of owners, Age, History of modifications papers and overall running condition. Depends really on these factors and if you can trust a dealer for a nice price on your car.0
