E: 02/08 Win a family pass to the Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland + £25 gift shop voucher
reg/login with Living North
Raking over old coals thinking of new places to visit in the North East? Hold your fire – we're giving away a family pass to the Mining Art Gallery in Bishop Auckland, which includes a bespoke private tour and £25 gift voucher to spend in the gallery's gift shop (worth £62 in total). Commemorating the 75th anniversary of Ernest Bevin's scheme to protect a dwindling coal supply during the Second World War, a temporary exhibition, – The Bevin Boys: War's Forgotten Workforce – which runs until 30th September, will display poignant works of art created by the 'Bevin Boys'. These were those men conscripted to work in the mines instead of joining the armed forces.
The Bevin Boys went unrecognised until 2007, when a national campaign saw them finally acknowledged for the vital role they played in the war effort. Some of these men responded by creating art – drawing and painting their experiences of an underground world unlike anything they had known before. We're giving away a family pass into the Mining Art Gallery to one lucky Living North reader, which will include a bespoke private tour and £25 gift voucher to spend in the gallery’s gift shop – a prize worth £62 in total.
– Prize valid until 30th September, 2018.
– All elements of the prize must be claimed on the same date as the visit. The private tour must be booked in advance (instructions will be given to the winner).
